Donatella Bisutti (Italy)

Plenilunio

Questa è l’ora in cui
il diritto è rovescio
e chiaro ciò che di giorno nasconde
oscure
profondità.
Nere serpi opprimono la notte
gli occhi acceca il pallore del mondo.
Il silenzio scivola
Sull’acqua calma.
Ora vivrò della dolcezza immateriale e paurosa
dei cespugli.
Vivrò delle pallide ombre della luna
della silenziosa attesa.

Full Moon

This is the hour when
front is back
and clear what in the daytime hides
dark
depths.
Black snakes oppress the night
the eyes blinded by the world’s paleness.
Silence glides
over the calm water.
Now I’ll live from the bushes’
intangible and timorous sweetness.
I’ll live from the moon’s pallid shadows
from its silent wait.

Floating Down a Reedy Stream

A boat is floating down a reedy stream
A small boat, hollowed from a log
By a local man
In the middle, on the bottom
Two dolls are laying

Prow pushing through the crowding banks of reed
The boat is floating down

The bisque girl lays
Dislocated legs and arms
On her softly swelling breast
Sleeping its doll sleep

The rabbit doll beside
With glass eyes guards the girl
Ears alert, erect

The boat is floats down the morning stream
Sunlight pooling in the clumps of reed

The morning stars fade
An egret starts and flies away

Every morning a local woman
Comes to the stream’s bank, alone
And sets shattered things adrift on the flow

What doesn’t fit her life’s vessel, everything
She herself destroys, before the day breaks
The boat floats on, down
Towards a vast vast lake
